You're lucky.. you get mail delivery. Where I live.. if you live in "town" they won't even deliver the mail to your house. You have to pay for a p.o. box which wouldn't be so bad, but if you work for a living it's hard to pick up your mail due to the post office hours. I took the postal exam a few years ago, which I passed, but it wasn't easy. Obviously from your video, the test doesn't really show the ability of some carriers to actually READ the numbers lol.

I put a vacation hold on my mail over Thanksgiving and when I came back to pick it up the kind folks over at the post office had lost it. A week's worth of mail and they couldn't find it anywhere! Luckily I pay almost all of my bills online. About 3 weeks later it was all delivered with a "failure to pick up" notice attached...

Bula Doug, I'm over in Fiji on vacation ('Bula' is hello in Fijian) I found an internet connection and decided to start research for my surf videos site... just found your totally awesome blog and had to dive right in! Your post "Is my mail carrier dyslexic?" is interesting, not really about surf videos stuff but certainly worth my time. I'll be bookmarking you so I can spend more time here when I get home. Hopefully you don't mind if I come back (I could also tell my friends... they'd like this)

Okay Doug, have a nice day...

Bula (goodbye in Fijian :)

Doug, I am truly impressed and glad I found your blog. I'm in Alaska right now of all places, and I was lucky enough to find an internet connection on this horrifying trip to see the grandparents. Landing on your blog was just what I needed. It warmed me up with it's curious topic, helped me escape the family madness, and gave me some great ideas for my surfing dvds website. If you have time I could use some tips from a pro on my surfing dvds site, but no pressure.

Thanks for the relief... :)

Okay Doug, I don't know if you can help me, but I think maybe you will understand. I see all this crazy blog spam everywhere (I see some here) and I'm wondering if you know how we can stop it. I just have a site about surf videos, and I can't even go find information on surf videos without having to filter through all the junk. My blog gets totally bombarded with this rediculously spam. I hope you're not as frustrated as my self. Anyway, good luck with your blog, and let me know if you have any ideas...

Thanks.

Hi Doug I noticed you wrote your a postal exam and was wondering if you could recommend good practice resources for studying for the USPS 473 postal exam? I have been to Barnes and Noble, they have about three different books but they seem to be outdated. I also have looked at just about all of the websites offering prep material. Although some look good most look outdated. The safest looking site that I found is www.aceyourpostalexam.com. Has anyone purchased from this site? Thanks for your help!

As a substitute rural carrier, I can tell you that we do occasionally make mistakes, but yours seems to be a continuing problem. In my office, if we have "problem" mailboxes, i.e. mailboxes that regularly receive misdelivered mail, we use "misdelivery alert" cards which are hot pink & are placed at your address in our case (where we sort the mail)& alert substitute carriers to double check the mail that goes into that box. Usually these type of problems occur when your regular carrier is absent & a substitute ("sub") cases & delivers your mail. Most people are not home when their mail is delivered or simply don't notice who is delivering their mail & therefore don't realize that a different person could be delivering your mail every day of the week in some cases. Sometimes, 2 different people may have cased it & a 3rd may have delivered it. And all 3 may be unfamiliar with the route. We are all under pressure to get the mail cased & delivered in "evaluated time" which tends to cause people to be in a big hurry which obviously leads to mistakes. If you are unfamiliar with a certain route's case & the names of the people living on the route, and you add in piles of mail with a supervisor breathing down your neck for you to hurry up & "get to the street so you can get back to the office" in a certain amount of time, then mistakes are likely to occur. Add in trying to sift out the forwards (mail to people who have moved from a specific address) and mail with bad addresses & it makes for a nerve wracking job at times. It was a real eye-opener for me when I went to work as a carrier. The route that I sub for has 800+ boxes & I do occasionally pick up mail that I have delivered to the wrong box.
Just ask your postmaster if a misdelivery alert can be placed at your address in the carriers case & see if that helps. Best of luck!

im a rural carrier and no the job is not simple, before i started i thought oh great this is going to be a easy easy job. and it's not it's hard to explain to people who have never done it, but if you really ask around alot of people quit the postal service because it is so demanding.

I liked your video alot. My answer paint your mailbox a different color it looks just like the 315 mailbox.

You don't have "toleration"? I believe the word you're searching for is "tolerance".

Frustrating as the issue might be, letter carriers work hard. I would like to see you try it. Maybe you should talk to them rather than post a blog complaining to the world.
